At the 2022 CES Consumer Electronics Show, Valeo’s third-generation scanning lidar will make its public debut and will subsequently be launched in 2024. Its main purpose is to improve road safety.

With the laser system it uses, this lidar can detect objects that are invisible to the naked eye, cameras and radar up to 200 meters away. It can identify all objects on the road and even calculate the correct braking distance by measuring the density of raindrops. It also uses algorithms to predict the trajectories of surrounding vehicles and trigger necessary actions accordingly. With its unique sensing and analysis capabilities, the vehicle can take control of its own driving, including on the highway at speeds of up to 130 km/h.

In addition to the vehicles it will carry, Valeo’s third-generation lidar can also alert other vehicles to hazards on the road, so that every road user can Benefited greatly from its excellent perceptual abilities.

In addition to long-range scanning lidar, Valeo has also developed a new short-field lidar, the Valeo NFL (near-field lidar), which will also be launched at CES 2022. It was exhibited globally for the first time at the electronics show.

When this innovative technology is used in driverless and self-driving vehicles, such as unmanned delivery logistics vehicles and driverless taxis, which create a security “encirclement” around the vehicle. Once the vehicle is started, it can display a 360-degree view of the scene around it in real time. The vehicle can therefore move freely while avoiding pedestrians and other obstacles.

When mounted on a highly autonomous vehicle, it can work with other sensors to provide a system for peripheral vision Redundancy eliminates blind spots in the field of view, allowing completely safe lane changes, especially in autonomous driving mode.
